Cookie Policy
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by sites you visit. They let a site remember context across pages and across visits. Browser storage (sessionStorage, localStorage) serves a similar role and is covered here for completeness.
Cookies we set
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _fbc (first-party copy) | SiteWise | Synthesized from a fbclid query parameter to match a click to a Meta ad campaign at form submit time. | Configurable, capped per Meta's recommended click window. |
Browser storage we use
These keys are stored in sessionStorage, not as cookies. They never leave your browser except when attached to a form submission you send us.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| utmParameters | SiteWise | Stores the UTM source from the URL of the page where you arrived, so we can credit the correct channel for a lead. | Cleared when the browser tab closes. |
| externalReferrer | SiteWise | Records the external site that sent you to us (search engine, social link, partner site). | Cleared when the browser tab closes. |
| entryURL | SiteWise | Records the first URL you landed on during this visit, used for attribution. | Cleared when the browser tab closes. |
Third-party cookies
We load Google Tag Manager (container ID GTM-M9KVQQ8H) on every page. GTM itself does not set tracking cookies, but it can load tags from other vendors that do. The most common ones are listed below.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_*, _gid | Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager | Aggregate, non-PII usage analytics. Helps us understand which pages perform and where to invest in content. | Up to 2 years, per Google's defaults. |
| _fbc, _fbp | Meta (Facebook) | Set by Meta domains if you previously visited a site running the Meta pixel. We may read these values at form submit to credit a lead to the right Meta campaign. We do not set them on site-wise.io ourselves. | Up to 90 days, per Meta's defaults. |
How to control cookies
- Every modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) lets you view, block, and delete cookies in its privacy settings.
- To opt out of Google Analytics across the web, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- To control Meta's use of cookies and ads, visit your Meta ad preferences.
- For a vendor-neutral overview of cookies and your options, see aboutcookies.org.
Changes to this policy
When we update this policy we will revise the date at the top. If we add a new vendor or a new category of cookie, we will update the tables above.
